Footwear Guidance

Which shoes are the right shoes for me?

'Shoe Clinic' and Sports Preparedness Consultation – Choosing the wrong footwear or ignoring a minor foot ailment can have a disastrous impact on foot function, especially for a person taking up a sport for the first time. A sports preparedness consultation provides patients with a complete biomechanical evaluation and assesses and recommends training shoes, splints, braces and orthotics to minimize the likelihood of sports injury.

The centre routinely evaluates sport shoes to ensure that we have an up to date knowledge on which footwear is most suitable for the patient. We do not rely on manufacturers or promotional information, but on evaluating shoes ourselves.

Finding the right pair of shoes seems like a simple thing, but with the advent of specialized footwear for a host of activities, and new technological advances in material and production methods, this is not necessarily true anymore. Here are some ideas that may help you select the best shoe for your particular needs:

  • Identify the activity you will be engaged in while wearing your shoes.
  • Look for shoes that offer sufficient arch support.
  • Think about the material the sole is made from.
  • Look at the material the uppers are made from.
  • Have your feet properly measured for shoes to fit correctly.
  • Consider the heel height of your shoe carefully.
  • Examine the stitching and construction methods for your shoes.
  • Choose the style and type of shoe you are interested in, and try them on in the store.
  • Don't let price be the sole criteria for your selection.
